The flexural strength is a measure of the maximum load that a material can withstand when bent by an external force. The value is the magnitude of the normal stress on the cross section when the specimen is bent and fractured.

Graphite electrode bending test method:


Loaded by the four-point method. For electrodes larger than or equal to 300 mm in diameter, the upper head is 40 mm apart, the indenter has a radius of curvature of 5 mm, the lower head is 120 mm, and the indenter has a radius of curvature of 3 mm. The distance between the heads of the electrodes having a diameter of less than 300 mm is 35 mm, the radius of curvature of the indenter is 5 mm, the spacing of the lower heads is 105 mm, and the radius of curvature of the indenters is 3 mm. The lower pallet is supported by steel balls.

experiment procedure

1. The sample must be baked in a 110 ° C oven for 2 h, stored in a desiccator, and cooled to room temperature for use.

2. Measure the sample size with a vernier caliper and record the data.

3. Align the center of the sample with the center of the upper indenter, and make the axial direction of the upper and lower indenters perpendicular to the sample axis.

4. Adjust the no-load speed of the test machine to 1.5 mm/min, then load until the sample breaks and record the maximum load.
