US machine tool sales in April 2011 was $396 million

According to the latest statistics released by the American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (AMTDA), sales of machine tools and related products in the United States in April 2011 were $396 million, compared to $511 million in March. It has dropped by 21%.

According to the US Machine Tool Sales Report (USMTC), manufacturing technology consumption in the northeastern United States was $58 million, down 24.8% from March. Machine tool sales in the region increased by 61.9% year-on-year. Sales of machine tools and related products in the southern United States in April were $51 million, an increase of 12.8% from the previous month. Sales in the Midwest were $124 million, down 39.5% from March. Central America's sales in April were $121 million, a 5.0% decrease from the previous month.

In the first four months of this year, sales of US machine tools and related products have reached US$1.6 billion, an increase of 105% compared with the same period in 2010. AMT and AMTDA spokespersons also said that although the sales in April decreased compared with last month, it still showed a strong development trend compared to 2010.
