Fall flowers and budding high survival rate

Bud connection is a commonly used grafting method for flowers and trees. It is most suitable for autumn. The survival rate can reach more than 90%, especially for some seedlings with fruits. In the autumn, the buds can be renewed, and the fruit set can be guaranteed in the following year. The Yangtze River and south of the region, budding flowers to September more appropriate time, now technical points are described below.

Timely budding

Autumn budding to time it, if premature budding, bud development is not yet fully, but also in the stock flourishing stage, less accumulation of nutrients in the body, budding survival rate is low, and the year after bud germination, cold easily injured. If the bud is too late, the physiological function is weakened, it is not easy to peel off the skin, and it is difficult to heal after the connection. It is suitable for the period from mid-late August to mid-September. Different regions may be advanced or postponed depending on the weather conditions.

Select bud

Generally, the buds in the middle of the branches should be selected to be full and full, and the buds at the upper end and the buds at the lower end should not be used. The size of the bud piece should be suitable, the bud piece is too small, the contact surface with the rootstock is small, and it is difficult to survive after the connection; the bud body is too large, and it is easy to be broken when inserted into the rootstock interface, resulting in poor contact and low survival rate. In particular, it should be noted that the bud must have a vascular bundle (commonly known as a bud pad), which is a pathway for the exchange of moisture and other nutrients between the bud and the rootstock. Without it, it is difficult to survive, resulting in failure of the bud graft. Under normal circumstances, the buds should be cut into a shield shape or a ring block shape. The shape of the bud-shaped buds is 15 cm to 20 cm. The size of the ring-shaped buds depends on the thickness of the rootstock and the buds.

Grafting method

When the bud connection is carried out, the rootstock must be processed and the buds must be cut, so that the edge is picked. If you are collecting the scion from a distance, pay attention to the moisturizing treatment of the scion. Do a good job with the cutting, in order to maintain the moisture of the buds and increase the survival rate. In the autumn, the use of buds generally adopts the "D" shape or the ring method. When using the "D" shape bud, first cut the rootstock from the ground 3 cm to 5 cm into a "T" shape, the depth can be peeled off the bark, the xylem can be seen, and then the rootstock is carefully peeled off with the tip of the knife. The skin is quickly embedded in the bud-shaped stalk with a petiole, and is fastened with a plastic band 1 cm wide to expose only the buds and petiole. After the dressing, it is better to use 1 cm to 1.5 cm above and below the incision. After the rootstock is plucked with pine soil for 10 cm high, after 10 to 15 days, the soil is cut and the survival condition is checked. If the bud is fresh and light green, the petiole is touched, indicating that it has survived, and vice versa. For those who are not connected, they can be reattached on the back side of the rootstock.

Follow-up management

In the autumn, the seedlings of the buds are cut off at the height of 18 cm and 20 cm above the bud joints after the spring is opened (ie, live piles), and the tied objects are untied. Trim 3 to 4 times in the summer, and cut off the branches of the rootstock in time. When the new shoot grows to a length of 8 cm to 10 cm, it is attached to the live pile near the base to prevent it from being blown off by the wind. When it is 20 cm to 25 cm long, it is bound again at the upper end until the new graft The wood is stripped, the live piles are cut, and the new seedlings can be kept in the seedbed to grow into large seedlings. Pay special attention to the management of fertilizer and water. If the fertility conditions of the seedbed are poor, it can be applied with thin organic fertilizers such as human and animal manure. When applying chemical fertilizers such as urea, some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be added at the same time to promote the growth of seedlings.

After the buds are connected, the seedlings should pay attention to removing the sprouts of the rootstocks in time, which can reduce the waste of the fertilizers, and can also avoid the damage caused by the growth of the buds. For some precious flower seedlings, you should pay attention to shading nets when entering the summer to prevent the seedlings after the survival from being too strong due to too much light, resulting in poor growth.
