Colorant type
Organic colorants are further classified into organic pigments and solvent dyes.
Organic pigments:
Strong coloring power, complete chromatogram, small relative density, bright color, good light resistance, and small addition. However, its heat resistance, weather resistance and hiding power are inferior to those of inorganic pigments, the dispersion effect is slightly poor, the transparency is poor relative to dyes, and the price is high. In the processing, it is necessary to uniformly disperse the pigment in the plastic by mechanical heating and kneading. It is mainly used for: crystalline materials such as POM, PE, PP, TPU, TPE and partially bright (bright color products that cannot be achieved by dye scent). ) in the product.
Solvent dye:
Unlike pigments, it is soluble in water or oil and is generally oil-soluble and transparent. The color is bright and bright, and is usually applied to transparent plastics such as PS, PC, and polyester. However, it is poor in light resistance, heat resistance and migration resistance. Dyes also include special pigments such as metallic pigments, silver powders, gold powders, and pearlescent pigments such as fluorescent whitening agents, fluorescent pigments, interference pigments, temperature-changing pigments, and the like.
Inorganic colorants are classified into inorganic pigments and inorganic dyes.
Inorganic pigments:
Generally, it has good thermal stability, weather resistance, light resistance, low price and superior dispersion performance. For example: titanium dioxide, carbon black, and the like. However, the coloring agent has a relatively low coloring power, a relatively high density, a large amount of addition, and a non-bright color. Mainly used to increase the color concentration, such as: PA, PC, PBT, POM, PPO, PPS and other materials and non-transparent color, gray and other resins.
Inorganic dyes:
Mostly used in paints.

Basic concept of color matching
Plastic colorants are classified into four types according to their physical form:
Powdered coloring agent - toner;
Paste coloring agent - color paste;
Liquid coloring agent - color oil;
Solid coloring agent - color masterbatch;
Among them, powdered colorants and solid colorants are widely used.
Toner coloring features:
Good dispersion, low cost, and small batch operation. It eliminates the consumption of human and material resources in the processing of color masterbatch and color paste, and the cost is low. Compared with other granulation and coloring, the processed resin undergoes less degradation process, which is beneficial to reduce the aging of plastic products and increase their service life.
Disadvantages:
Pigments will fly during transportation, storage, weighing, and mixing, causing pollution and seriously affecting the working environment.
Some pigment powders with poor heat resistance and fear of shearing are made into color masterbatch. Due to the long time of high temperature, the shearing effect in the masterbatch processing equipment is long, and the coloring effect is obviously weakened, such as pearl powder and fluorescence. Powder, luminous powder, and injection molding products are also prone to streamlined scars and seams.
The hopper of the extruder is not easy to clean. The toner used for coloring adheres to the inner wall of the cylinder (or even the screw) under the action of a humectant such as white oil. When refueling is required, cleaning the cartridge becomes a problem for the field operator.
Coloring with toner, since the pigment powder is evenly distributed in the resin to be colored, its dispersibility is good. This conclusion can only be applied to injection molding products, especially thick-walled products, and for blown film and spinning products. When it comes to it. Because the toner is generally not pretreated, when it is mixed with the resin, the pigment powder should be made only from the inlet of the extruder, the screw, the discharge port, and the short plasticization mixing time. The molecules and the pigmented molecules are well-joined – full combination is completely unguaranteed and there is a “sandwich” phenomenon. However, this "sandwich" phenomenon will be masked in thick-walled products, which is obvious in blown film and spinning products. Therefore, the latter method of coloring is still dominated by color masterbatch.
Color master coloring features:
Using a certain process and corresponding equipment, the pigment (or dye) is mixed into the carrier under the action of the auxiliary agent, and the molecules of the pigment powder are fully combined with the molecules of the carrier resin by heating, plasticizing, stirring and shearing. It is then made into particles of similar size to the resin particles. When used, it is only necessary to add a small proportion (1% to 4%) to the resin to be colored to achieve the purpose of coloring the resin. The advantages are as follows:
The environmental pollution problem caused by the flying of the toner is improved, and the color change is easy during use, and it is not necessary to perform special cleaning on the extruder hopper, which is convenient.
Targeted and matched color. Compared with the batch of resin dry dyeing granulation and then to the plastic parts, the use of color masterbatch can reduce the resin aging caused by the secondary processing of plastic products, which is beneficial to the improvement of the service life of plastic products.
During the processing, the pigment masterbatch is fully mixed with the carrier resin under the action of the auxiliary agent. In use, it is placed in a certain proportion of the resin to be processed, and the color master quickly enters the role to recognize the resin. Compatibility is significantly better than toner coloring.
Disadvantages:
Due to the small amount of addition, the processing time of plastic products is short, which is limited by the length-to-diameter ratio of the screw of the extruder, and the dispersibility of the color masterbatch is often inferior to that of the toner. An additional manufacturing process, the cost of dyeing is higher than toner coloring. When the carrier in the masterbatch differs from the properties of the resin to be colored, undispersed dots, stains, and patterns often appear on the surface of the plastic article. Therefore, the use of the masterbatch is limited due to compatibility and dispersibility.
Color master selection
Dedicated color masterbatch:
When the masterbatch is produced, the same resin as the resin to be colored is used as a carrier, and a high concentration of pigment (dye) is added. Under the action of the auxiliary agent, heating, plasticizing, kneading and extruding are carried out. The granules are made into a coloring agent specially suitable for such a resin, and are called a special color masterbatch. The concentration of the special color masterbatch can be high or low, and the general addition amount is between 1% and 4%.
Universal color masterbatch:
Also known as "universal color masterbatch", although a resin is also used as a carrier, it can be applied to the coloration of other resins than its carrier resin. Firstly, the resin with low melting point and high melting index is selected as the carrier of the universal color masterbatch. The pigment powder ratio in the masterbatch is as high as possible, so the universal color masterbatch must be a high concentration masterbatch, and the amount used in the injection molded product is generally 1 %. In order to improve the affinity of the general color masterbatch, a special coupling agent is usually added, and the mixing time is prolonged.
Color master selection principle:
In order to produce a universal color masterbatch, it is necessary to use a pigment with a high heat resistance grade and a wide application range. When the temperature grade of the pigment powder reaches a certain level, the cost of the pigment increases by 50% to 100 for every 10 °C to 20 °C. %. When a general-purpose color masterbatch made of a high-temperature-resistant pigment is used for coloring a high-melting-point resin, it is used as a low-melting tree finger such as LDPE, but the surplus value is increased.
From the coloring effect analysis: because different resins in the coloring process, the degree of "eat color" is different. It is difficult to achieve the intended effect with a universal color masterbatch. Conversely, the wide applicability of the universal color masterbatch, although its carrier resin is incompatible with the colored resin, can be ignored, but does not mean that it does not exist at all.
Due to the small addition ratio of the universal color masterbatch, the dispersibility is relatively poor, and the surface of the plastic product is prone to patterns, stains, and color spots, and the phenomenon of crispy skin is caused by the mismatch of the material species, especially for large areas and thin walls. Plastic parts with complicated shapes should pay more attention. At this time, special color masterbatch should be used as much as possible, and the color concentrate with low concentration should be selected to increase the added amount to improve the dispersibility (selectable color of 1:20, 1:10) mother).

General Safety Information:

10. Only used for melting glue stick, no other usage;

Using methods
