Economic operation of China's automobile industry from January to May 2014

First, May car sales increased by 8.5% year-on-year
According to the statistics of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the national automobile production and sales in May was 1,975,800 and 1,191,200 respectively, and the production and sales decreased by 4.44% and 4.64% respectively; the year-on-year growth was 10.97% and 8.50% respectively.
From January to May, the production and sales of automobiles were 9,992,800 and 9,838,100, respectively, up 9.37% and 8.97% year-on-year. 
(I) Passenger car sales in May increased by 13.85% year-on-year
In May, passenger cars produced 1,649,600 units, a year-on-year increase of 16.19%, a decrease of 1.1% from the previous month; sales of 1,500,400 units, an increase of 13.85% year-on-year and a decrease of 1.2% from the previous month. Among them, the sales of cars was 100,800 units, up 7.3% year-on-year; the sales of MPVs was 130,300 units, up 54.0% year-on-year; the sales of SUVs was 319,200 units, up 40.1% year-on-year; the sales of cross-type passenger cars were 132,200 units, down 8.2% year-on-year.
From January to May, the production and sales of passenger cars were 8,009,500 and 8,70,100, respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 11.06% and 11.13%. Among them, the sales of cars was 5,157,300, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%; the sales of MPV was 755,300, a year-on-year increase of 56.4%; the sales of SUVs was 1,498,300, a year-on-year increase of 37.5%; the sales of cross-type passenger vehicles was 659,200, a year-on-year decrease of 17.1%. 
1. The market share of passenger cars with a displacement of 1.6 liters and below decreased by 1.14%.
In May, sales of passenger cars of 1.6 liters and below were 1,408,900, accounting for 65.95% of the passenger vehicle sales market, down 1.14 percentage points from the same period of the previous year; sales increased by 11.92% year-on-year.
From January to May, sales of passenger cars of 1.6 liters and below were 5,372,100, accounting for 66.57% of the passenger car sales market, down 2.41 percentage points from the same period of the previous year; sales increased by 7.24% year-on-year. 
2. Sales of self-owned brand passenger cars increased by 5.4% year-on-year
In May, sales of self-owned brand passenger cars totaled 580,600 units, up 5.4% year-on-year, accounting for 36.5% of the passenger car sales market, down 2.9 percentage points from the same period in 2013. Among them, self-owned brand cars sold a total of 216,600 units, accounting for cars. 21.5% of total sales, down 5.1 percentage points from the same period in 2013.
From January to May, the sales of self-owned brand passenger cars totaled 3.064 million, a year-on-year increase of 0.9%, accounting for 38.0% of the passenger car sales market, and the occupancy rate decreased by 3.8%. Among them, the self-owned brand cars sold a total of 1,160,400 units, a year-on-year. It fell by 15.8%, accounting for 22.5% of total car sales, and its share fell by 5.7% year-on-year.
(II) Commercial vehicle sales in May decreased by 12.0% year-on-year
In May, commercial vehicle production was 326,200 units, down 9.6% year-on-year and 18.5% from the previous month. Sales were 322,800 units, down 12.0% year-on-year and 18.8% quarter-on-quarter.
From January to May, commercial vehicles produced a total of 1,18,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 2.4%; sales of 1,768,800 units, an increase of 0.1%. 
Second, the production and sales of new energy steam passenger cars continue to maintain rapid growth
According to incomplete statistics, in May, new energy vehicles produced 3,770 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 98.32%. Among them, 1,014 plug-in hybrid passenger cars were produced, up 567.11% year-on-year, and 539 plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles were down by 4.26% year-on-year; 1851 pure electric passenger cars were produced, up 176.68% year-on-year. 366 commercial vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 29.21%.
Third, the economic benefits of key enterprises in the automotive industry have increased
According to the statistics of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to April 2014, 17 key automobile enterprise groups completed the total industrial output value of 900.109 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.3%; the accumulated operating income reached 100.395 billion yuan, an increase of 14.7%. The total profit and tax was 193.231 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.3%.
Fourth, the automobile import market is growing at a high speed
In April 2014, the total vehicle exports were 78,500 units, down 4.6% year-on-year, and the export value was 1.159 billion US dollars, up 10.1% year-on-year. From January to April, the total vehicle exports were 281,900, down 8.1% year-on-year; the cumulative export value was US$4.018 billion, up 3.3% year-on-year.
In April 2014, the total number of imported vehicles was 130,700, a year-on-year increase of 34.5%, and the import value was US$5.481 billion, a year-on-year increase of 33.2%. From January to April, the total number of imported vehicles was 439,100, a year-on-year increase of 40.0%; the cumulative import value was US$19.056 billion, a year-on-year increase of 46.3%.
